The Natural History Museum in London, which hosts the annual competition, has kindly released the 13 finalist images for the 2017 Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest, in advance of the October announcement of the competition’s winners. This year, the contest attracted nearly 50,000 entries from both professional and amateur photographers across 92 countries.

Thirteen of the finalists have been released online — featuring an incredible image of a bald eagle, two seals swimming under an ice sheet, and an arctic fox carrying an egg.
