Alex Freund is a photographer and creative director based in New York. A native of Chicago, he moved east to attend Parsons School of Design.

Alex’s photography is marked by a seamless mix of a naturalistic gestural sensibility within unnatural scenarios to which he brings a cinematic sense of visual narrative. He counts among his influences sources as diverse as magic realism, classic fashion photography, street photography, cinema, and gonzo journalism.

His photography career was cemented in 2000 with publication alongside established artists such as Tim Walker, Stephane Sednaoui, Rankin, Lilian Bassman, and Sarah Moon in the survey Fashion Photography Now by Harry N. Abrhahms Books.

He has since worked with iconic companies and brands such as DVF, Nike, Etienne Aigner, The New York Times Magazine, Interview, and MAC Cosmetics, where he served as Executive Director of Design. Additionally, he is co-founder and creative director of Gravure, the award-winning creative agency and its namesake fashion, art, and culture journal.

He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and children, who are much more creative than he is.
