Bart van Damme studied at the Vrije Academie in The Hague and Minerva Art Academy in Groningen in the early and mid 80s. Trained as a painter, he increasingly evolved into a photographer with a fascination for the social landscape in general, and the transitional, industrial and coastal landscape in particular.
Influenced by the American New Topographics movement, he developed his own distinctive, perhaps Dutch, style. The starting point in his work is always documentary-based, but presented in an artistic fashion. Bart now lives and works in Rotterdam, NL.
