Magnificent black and white and long exposure shots by Joel (Julius) Tjintjelaar, award winning fine art photographer, artist and educator who was born in Jakarta and moved to the Netherlands as a young boy. Having aspired for the more artistic professions like architecture, music and writing from an early age, Joel ended up studying Criminal law and working in the IT for many years to make a living. Inspired by greats like Gehry and Calatrava, Tjintjelaar wants to photograph all of the great architecture in the world. “It’s up to you what you do with contrasts, light, shapes and lines to emphasize the essence, or what you see as the essence – no colors that will seduce the eye, only emotion that will capture the heart,” he says.

I love Black and White photography because with the removal of color the essence of objects, situations, sceneries and people can become more visible. Can become more visible because it’s up to you what you do with contrasts, light, shapes and lines to emphasize the essence, or what you see as the essence – no colors that will seduce the eye, only emotion that will capture the heart.
