From self-taught make-up artist to beauty and fashion photographer, Donald Chiu has always had an eye for beauty, especially when it comes to visual styling. His admiration for clean and beautiful style transcends from his belief that good taste is what forms the perfect picture.
In his early teens, Chiu began his career as a hair stylist and later added make-up artist to his resume. As a self-taught artist, Chiu spent a number of years working in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia before heading to Hong Kong in 1993 to establish himself as one of Asia’s premier hair and make-up artist. Over the past decade, Chiu’s unique styling has been utilized in major campaigns by renowned brands such as Shu Uemura, Maybelline, L’Oreal, Pantene, SK-II, Max Factor, Nivea and Sunsilk.
As a make-up artist, Chiu’s interactions with world-renowned photographers quietly fueled his passion for photography and in 2002 Chiu discovered yet another talent after picking up a camera for the very first time. He developed and honed his new skills by taking head shots for models’ composite cards. Within one year, Chiu opened his own studio and booked major projects for Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, West East Magazine, Nuyou, Madame Figaro and Zip Magazine. Also in his portfolio are campaigns for Shu Uemura, Maybelline, Olay, Dermalogica, Lancel, Red Earth, American Express, HSBC, Lane Crawford, and Seibu just to name a few.
Chiu’s accomplishments as a hair stylist, make-up artist and photographer all culminate in his quest to find beauty in all things that surround him.
