Mankichi Shinshi is a talented 32-year-old documentary photographer, who was born in Oita and currently lives and works in Nagoya, Japan. Mankichi started photography in 2013, he focuses on street photographs of lonely people. “I’m recording the appearance of people, things and spaces as they are,” he says.
I like a person who is alone. I don’t like a person who is in some groups. So I take photos of alone people as the center of the world, with respect. In case of the person who is with someone, I take them on the moment when they are as if being alone. Then, everyone come to seem to be a precious presence. It may be arrogant, but when looking at forcibly collected these scenes, I feel likely to become good friends with anyone. This might be a kind of how to get on in the world with elimination method.
