Born in small city in coastal New Zealand, Gavin O’Neill began his post-school life as the drummer in a successful local band, and first bought a camera when they embarked on their first national tour as a way to document their travels. During that tour, he took one roll of film, which was to prove as catalyst months later when the band members parted ways, and an opportunity arose to change paths in his life.
Over the following years, the hobby of photography turned into an obsession, and today he has become a recognised member of the photographic industry. He is self-taught, something he says has made the journey all the more enjoyable, by simply choosing to rely on his own inspirations and intuition as the learning method for his craft.
He is currently is based in NY, but works worldwide.
His work has appeared in many magazines, including Vogue, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, and Sports Illustrated, aswell as his nude and body work appearing in Black+White Magazine, GQ, Esquire, Maxim etc. His commercial clients include Avon, Philips, Olay, Ponds, L’Oreal and Coca Cola.
