David Perkins is talented photographer currently based in New York, who is known for his work with ballet dancers. Perkins has photographed dancers for almost ten years, he is passionate about dance and capturing movement in his photography. David entered the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia to study photography.
After a while, I came up with a concept to photograph dancers in their own homes. Usually when people photographs dancers they are in wide open, expansive places. In parks, in front of monuments, in the city streets, even in the forest. But I have never seen photographers photographed at home, in their small private confines.
In his series “Home Stage”, David Perkins captures environmental portraits of ballet dancers in their natural habitat — their own homes. His photos show dancers in their homes, outside of stage. The series is absent of lights, studios, hair and make up.
