Estonian photographer Kaupo Kikkas received formal training in photography at Finland’s Visual Arts Institute, but he attributes his award-winning portraits of musicians to his education in that field (clarinet, sax, and voice).
Kaupo has worked twelve years in Northern Europe shooting for a host of magazines and advertising agencies, but mostly making portraits of artists. He has had seven personal exhibitions and shows his works in regional galleries.
On the international front, his image of a model covered in whipped cream was selected for the cover of Nikon Pro magazine (winter 2010). In 2010 a category sweep (first, second, and third places) in the 8×10 prints, and a silver medal in 2011 in the 16×20 prints category of the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International competition.
His studio is located in Tallinn, but he travels to his clients all over Europe. Though when not at work he can often be found camping (and photographing) in Lapland or visiting tribes in Amazon rainforest. He occasionally still picks up a saxophone and has been known to sing after a few drinks.
