Lara Swimmer was a student of film theory and media at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School, as well as in Paris at the Center for Film and Critical Studies, and at the Sorbonne. She graduated with honors, and also holds a degree in French Literature.

The direction of her work has been influenced by the architecture of 20th century Europe,and by the sensibilities of the Bauhaus, Mies Van Der Rohe, and the International Style in design and architecture.
Lara has spent much time photographing numerous civic building projects as site documentarist, from the Paramount Theater, Union Station and KeyArena’s renovations, to the Seattle Symphony, Experience Music Project, Tacoma and Bellevue Art Museums, and most recently, the Seattle Central Library, Seattle Art Museum, Olympic Sculpture Park, Disney Concert Hall (LA) and the Urban Outfitters relocation (Philadelphia Naval Shipyards.)
