Markus Jans is a photographer based in Paris and Berlin. Prior to photography, he studied philosophy, evident in his thoughtful compositions and the often complex relationship between his subjects and their environments. Markus began his early career as a still-life photographer. A constant eye for beautiful objects eventually led him to fashion photography. His earliest editorials in Germany were for Marie Claire, Jetzt and SZ Magazine. Markus then moved to Paris and began shooting for Self Service, i-D and Interview. It was there that he met Nan Goldin and initiated a lifelong professional relationship as her photo assistant, producer and publications manager. Most recently, he was the curatorial supervisor for Goldin’s exhibition at C/O Berlin. Since 2002, Markus has been stationed between New York and Europe. He has shot for a wide variety of editorial, advertising and entertainment clients. Among his clients are Adidas, H&M, Hugo Boss, Joop!, Aigner, Marco Polo, Vogue, L´Uomo Vogue, Interview, Achtung.
