Rich Gilligan holds an MFA in Photography from University of Ulster, Belfast and a BA honours degree in Documentary Photography from the University of Wales, Newport. His work has been exhibited worldwide with recent exhibitions in Dublin, London, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Los Angeles and Copenhagen Photo Festival 2013. Gilligan has worked as a contributing photographer to a wide range of international magazines alongside working on a variety of advertising campaigns and fashion commissions. He has been documenting homemade skateparks worldwide since 2008. This work titled “DIY” was published as a book in 2012 with 19/80 Editions and recently sold out. A revised second edition of DIY will be published in early 2014 through Prestel publishing. He was recently awarded the 2013 Showcase Photography Award which highlights and supports the best of contemporary practice in Ireland. The work produced from this exhibition toured Europe last summer as a solo show. Rich is currently working on both personal and commissioned work between Dublin, London and New York.
Richard Gilligan spent 4 years travelling the world to photograph DIY skateparks. The work was first published by the kind folks at 1980 Editions in Paris and sold out of its first print run.
