Rita Minissi is a professional photographer and designer based in New York, USA. Often obscuring her own appearance, Rita is interested in how one portrays one’s self to others, and how those constructions can shape or interpret one’s identity. Stressing the particularity of our own self-concept and its defiance of any form of universality, she strives to embrace the different and contradictory manifestations of identity rather than attempting to eliminate them. In practice, this means understanding the limits of the human aspiration to know and control – by accepting that one can never fully control how they are interpreted by others, and instead must exist in an open‐ended and unpredictable dynamic with all who perceive them. Rita imagines the self as an ever-changing whole that can welcome the transformation of its boundaries.
