Stephan Vanfleteren is a talented photographer currently based in his native Belgium. After his photography studies at Sint-Lukas Brussels (1988-1992) he started to work as a freelancer in 1993. He specialises in black-and-white portraits and extensive reports at home and abroad. He is currently mainly working for foreign newspapers and magazines. Stephan is a six time winner of the prestigious World Press Photo awards among a number of other international prizes.
He has exhibited in Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, London, Liverpool and Verona. His two most recent exhibitions have received huge critical acclaim: Belgicum, a project documenting life in his native country, at the Antwerp Photography Museum in 2007 and Portret, a twenty year retrospective of his portraits at the Wintercircus Mahy in Ghent in 2009.
